In 1927, Pewabic collaborated with 17-year-old Eero Saarinen to produce tiles for a fireplace in Hoey Hall, the main academic building for the Boy’s School on Cranbrook’s campus in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The fireplace includes an entire wall of brown and tan Pewabic tiles along with four high-relief designs sculpted by Saarinen and decorated with figures playing various sports - football, tennis, track and basketball. This football tile has been pressed from one of our historic molds in celebration of Michigan’s achievements in the sport.
