The Lotus flower is held sacred in the Hindu, Buddhist, and Egyptian religions. The Lotus is a type of waterlily which rises from the muddy waters to blossom, making it a symbol of purity of the soul within the material world, and an emblem of resurrection.
The Lotus is one of the eight auspicious signs of Buddhism- an eight-petaled lotus used in Buddhist mandalas symbolizes cosmic harmony, a thousand-petaled lotus symbolizes spiritual illumination, a bud symbloizes potential.
In Egyptian mythology the lotus was associated with the sun because it bloomed every day and closed by night. The lotus ws even believed to have given birth to the sun, and was the vehicle fo the soul's resurrection.
Designed in 2008 by Pewabic Designer Mario Lopez, this 4x4 tile features an elegant line-drawn lotus flower.
