This 3x3 line-drawn tile is an historic Mary Stratton design, circa 1910-19. The Lotus motif was originally used as a 6x6" tile in Mary Stratton's residence on East Grand Blvd. The original drawing for this tile can be found in Mary Stratton's historic daybooks.
Symbolically, the lotus is a type of water lily, which rises frm muddy waters to blossom, making it a symbol of purity of the soul within the material world.
