This stunning snowdrop vase is now available in our rich matte green iridescent glaze. Pewabic's iridescent glazes are possibly its greatest contribution to ceramics. Through trial and error, and persistence, Pewabic founder Mary Stratton developed her first successful iridescent glaze in 1906. Getting the formula and firing techniques stabilized took another three years, all done from scratch by a woman trained in art, not chemistry. Iridescent firings are quite laborious, using special glazes and requiring a third firing, creating unique one-of-a-kind pieces every time.

The snowdrop vase was first created in 1903 by Mary Stratton and was intended as the base for a lamp. Delicately carved snowdrop flowers surround the vase. Resculpted by Pewabic artisan Sherlyn Hunter, this historic reproduction mimics the original in every way.

The original returned home to Pewabic when it was won in auction bidding in February 2006. It was purchased from an antiques dealer in Montgomery, Alabama, who found it in a barn at an estate sale. She is delighted that the original is on display in our Museum Collection today. Vase measures 6"Hx4"W.
