The Four Elements is one of Pewabic's first contemporary-era series, created in the early 1990's by Pewabic designer Genevieve Sylvia. The concept of the Four Classical Elements dates back to antiquity, and has root in many religious, spiritual, and philosophic traditions, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Greek philosophy and Astrology.

The 12 signs of the Zodiac are divided into groups of the Elements. Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are the Fire signs, and are associated with energy, assertiveness, and passion. In divinity tarot, the suit of Wands is associated with Fire.
