The Four Elements is one of Pewabic's first contemporary-era series, created in the early 1990's by pewabic designer Genevieve Sylvia. The concept of the Four Classical Elements dates back to antiquity and has roots in many religious, spiritual, and philosophical traditions, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Greek philosophy and astrology.

The 12 signs of the Zodiac are divided into groups of the Elements. Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are the Earth signs, and are associated with the qualities of practicality, restraint and materialism. In divinity tarot, the suit of Pentacles is associated with Earth.
